Keeping it Light

After my last post, I needed to write something a bit more lighthearted. Something that would take my mind off of all of the sadness, if even for a moment. I have a lot to share but I'll try to keep it short. Try being the operative word. We all know how verbose I can become. *wink*

P-word mentioned below

I think DH and I have come up with a name. More like I came up with a name that DH didn't veto. I had a list of 5-7 names and only one survived the cut. However, I think I'll make you all sweat it out until his birthday. For now, it is something that we would like to keep between ourselves. We did make the unfortunate choice to tell close friends and family and some of the reactions were less than thrilling. So, I've decided to share it with no one else until he is born. That way, people will be less inclined to express their negativity or suggest unwanted substitutes. He is OUR baby and if we are happy with his name, I know everyone else will come around. For now, on this blog, he will remain "Sunshine".

Speaking of Sunshine, he let Daddy feel him from the outside for the first time tonight. His kicks have gradually gotten stronger and I find his movements much more consistent. Especially in the evening. When I'm propped up watching TV or on the computer, I swear he decides to dance a jig in there. It is the most awe-inspiring feeling. I'm still not sure if it has really sunk in that there is a live baby in there making those thumps and bumps. It almost tickles inside and makes me giddy. But I am not taking any of this for granted. I cherish each sense of movement as if it will never happen again.

On a funnier note, my nipples have started to leak. I was changing after work yesterday and I noticed a quarter-sized stain on my bra that could only be colostrum, exactly where my right nipple would be. Nothing on the left side. Go figure. I immediately freaked out. This wasn't supposed to happen until the third trimester! He's not ready to come out yet! But after talking to some BTDT moms and consulting Dr. Google, I rest assured that it is normal. A bit early to start mooing but normal. Whew.

Total weight gain at 21 weeks is approximately 18 lbs (according to my indecisive digital scale). My goal is to gain 40 lbs. or less so I think I'm on track. All of the tempting Easter candy is not helping me though, I must say.

Well, that's about all for now. I'll save the registry talk for next time. It feels good to be able to even consider a registry. REAL good.

I am glad that you found a name- we Think we have come up with one - but as you mentioned - everyone is a critic and I am not sharing our choices anymore until the birthday as well.

I have hte same experience with movements, they are late in the afternoon while propped up watching tv.

SO sorry about the spilling milk! I keep looking to see if these is happening so far nothing.

So glad that you are getting registry ready!

How great your husband finally got to feel sunshine kick!!! :)
Your mooing comment made me LOL, thanks for that!
I am still amazed at how many people have things to say about baby names, what the hell?

That sounds like the process we went through with names... with a much longer list. DH hated all of them but one, LOL.

When I was propped up on my laptop was always when Devin was most active. It was "our" time together.

I notice movements much more when I'm sitting still not doing much. I swear I can feel them from the outside too, but I've never been able to get my hubbys hand on the right spot in time.

Congrats on coming to agreement on a name! My husband and I are miles away from that! We seem to like completely different names, but we're working on it. Every now and then we hit one that elicits a "What, are you kidding?" response. =)

I've heard other expectant moms say what you've said---keep the name secret because after the baby is born, people are less likely to give you their unwanted opinion. One of our friends did that with her baby boy, Asa---named after my friend's grandfather.

I can't wait to hear Sunshine's name...I know it is going to be a good one. Just ignore the comments, I don't know why people think you care what they think...that is weird about leaking already, I remember the entire time I was pregnant...I didn't leak at all and thought something was wrong...I would get in the shower and just squeeze and squeeze, and nothing...sounds like you are going to be ready for him when he gets here girl!!!

You're right, it is YOUR baby's name!!! That's wonderful! Keep it to yourselves... We wanted to name our 2nd daughter Evangeline but people snubbed it so bad that it made me feel awful and we changed it. Personally I'm glad we changed it as I feel her name now is what she was always meant to have...

... but definitely don't appreciate the rudeness!!!

Ooh, you must let us help you with your registry! Like what you REALLY need and what you REALLY don't need!

Well, maybe the leakage is a sign of high production when it will be called for.

YAY for finding a name. I don't blame you for not sharing. I was surprised how negative people were when we shared, as if they had a vested interest in the name of our child. I'm not feeling hearing the opinions of others, so we are keeping our name under-wraps as well. :)

Well I understand your wanting to keep your name choice under wraps for now...but just so you know - I'm DYING of CURIOSITY!!!! Can you give us a tiny hint??? What letter does it start with? (I'm no good at this patience thing, can you tell?)

As you know, I couldn't wait to share our daughter's name with the world. I'm telling anyone who'll listen. I guess I'm not the best at keeping secrets. ;-) So far it's gone over well with everyone but I don't think I'd care if it didn't. Once we started calling her by her name, it just felt so good.

Congrats on having the husband feel a kick! That's a big milestone! I keep trying to get my husband to be at the right place at the right time but so far - no luck.

Finding a name must be such a relief... We only decided about 2 days before we HAD to name him (Jews have to have a name for the boy at his circumcision, which is on the 8th day). We knew we chose an 'off the wall' name, but we like it... Some people haven't been able to keep their mouths shut and one even told me that with so many nice names she wonders how I chose that one. (We don't care :-) Everyone was shocked with the other names we chose as well - Abigail and Nomi.)

The baby naming veto game is quite fun, isn't it? :/

Congratulations on all of the movement! I can't wait to see what you have to say about registries because that is some territory I haven't ventured into yet.

I TOTALLY understand your desire to keep Sunshine's name to yourself until he born!

Lord knows after what we went through with my MIL after announcing Elliote Hope's name (she ended up offering us MONEY to change it after we filled out her birth certificate....can you believe it??) we will NEVER annouce name preferences beforehand again!!

PS: I can't wait to hear what you two decided on!!
