Round Two With Orange Goo

I had my 3-hour GTT this morning. All I can say is thank goodness it's over. 4 blood draws later (fasting glucose and then one blood draw for each hour after drinking the orange gloop) left me with arms resembling those of a heroin addict but I'm happy to report that I survived. Now, my fate rests in the hands of the lab. I can call in Thursday afternoon for the results, if they aren't available during my routine appointment that morning.

I got a little nauseous and shaky from fasting for 12 hours. I felt dizzy and wondered if I might pass out or puke on the floor. But neither actually happened. There was another woman there for her 3-hour, so we immediately formed a kinship to pass the time. We got to talking and wouldn't you know that she was pregnant with twins from IVF? Her husband was diagnosed with MFI and she had PCOS so they went straight to IVF and were lucky enough to conceive their daughter on the first try. Their twins were conceived on their first FET. It was nice to communicate with someone who was a fellow IFer rather than someone who just wanted to moan and groan about an "oops" pregnancy. I would have surely had to bury my nose in a book in that instance. But I was fortunate enough to be spared and enjoy some good conversation from someone who gets the anxiety, the stress, the gratefulness and the appreciation of such a miracle. Sometimes it feels like there are so few of us in real life even though there is strength in numbers in my online world.

After my crappy Thursday last week with the test results, I had the best surprise on Friday when my co-workers threw me a shower! My boss tricked me into thinking we were having my annual review but when we opened the door, everyone was standing in this beautifully decorated room with food and gifts galore, shouting "Surprise!". I stood there, stunned - and apparently red in the face as everyone commented on my cardinal hue. It figures it happened on a casual Friday so I was dressed down and not wearing any makeup. But it didn't really matter.

FYI - for those of you who get as turned on by food as I do, the menu included: an edible arrangement including chocolate dipped fruit, Amish friendship bread, lemon poppyseed muffins, bagels, and cinnamon buns. Did I tell you that I love these people?

I have to say that Sunshine made out like a bandit. Everyone was so generous. I am still in shock. I sat there opening presents as a guest of honor and was in utter disbelief. I remember thinking to myself, this isn't happening. This must be for someone else. It can't be for me. Can it? Remind me again, am I truly, dare I say, pregnant?

I don't have any pics yet from my boss but as soon as I get some, I'll be sure to share. I will also try to organize the gifts and take a photo so everyone can see.

NaComLeavMo sort of snuck up on me this weekend but I finally caught up tonight with 15 comments. I am so excited to meet new people and read new experiences. It feels like the first day of school all over again.

Remember, I mentioned a few posts back about family drama? Well, I've finally written out my feelings here. The post is password-protected so if you care to read and comment, please email me for the magic word.

Don't worry - I won't be abandoning Sticky Bean anytime soon. This is just an alternate, more private space for me to bitch and moan, if anyone cares to listen to such things. Feel free to offer me more cheese with my whine.

Congratulations on passing your GTT thingamabobber! I know it's a fasting test, but I hope they at least let you have water beforehand? When I had surgery back in Jan, they gave me about three of those intravenous hydrating thingies (I'm all about the technical terms tonight) because I was so dehyrdated. That's a HUGE milestone now behind you. Awesome.

PS - Visiting from NaComLeaveMo.

Congrats on surviving your GTT. I had to do it twice last time (due to having GD with my previous pregnancy) and it is a really disgusting experience. I hope your results are good :-)

Your shower sounds amazing - in Israel there's no such thing (with all the good and bad aspects of that).

Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog :-) I'd love to read your password protected post...

I'll keep "passing the GTT" vibes going your way! ;) I'm really glad you were seated next to a fellow IFer. Luck was on your side, for sure.

I'd love to read the password protected post too... I'll PM or email you when I get to work!

Give the belly a little rub for me!

Ohhhh, chocolate-dipped fruit. *drool* Good meal. And good surprize!

I hope you pass the GTT. I've heard so many stories about the 3-hour and how horrible it makes you feel. Blech! I'm sorry you have to go through that.

What a nice little surprise from your co-workers! The GTT always made me sick. I always tried to get the lemon-lime as trying to keep the orange down was sheer folly. Congrats on passing!

I'm trying to get caught up on my NCLM too. I was out of town all weekend.

So glad to hear that the test is over! Bleh. I had to take it when my RE was still trying to figure out what was wrong with me and it sucked. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for great results this time around! HUGS!

I remember doing the GTT - as the phlebotomist, not the patient. Poor girls/women getting poked so much!

Yay on the shower, it means so much when you have a good job and good people there.

I hope the 3 hour GTT results are great tomorrow. I was so happy to read about your surprise baby shower. Sounds like you have a great bunch of coworkers. You deserve every happiness!

Isn't the GTT fun? I passed out cold when I had mine. I've got PCOS and am "pre-diabetic" and I just couldn't maintain consciousness with that much orange cola. It is one disgusting experience, isn't it? Just you wait till you have your first colonoscopy. It will make the GTT seem like a trip to Disneyworld!

Congrats on getting through it... it sucked big time, eh?

Oh, and I wanna read!

Holy Crimany----TWELVE HOURS???!!! So glad you made it through in one shaky little piece. Oy!

Crossing my fingers that the results bring a sigh of relief.

I just had my one hour GTT today, and am hoping, praying that I passed it. The 3 hour does not sound like fun!
